That barrel looks tiny. You'll have problems with the pressure of the rounds with a barrel that thin. Aside from that and what STUNNA said, looks good!

The drum doesn't need to line up exactly with the ejection port because of the way the rounds would feed into the chamber. It dosnt eject shells straight upward, the ejection port is upward facing as is the M14 and just like an M14 they eject out at an angle.I am aware of the the barrel thanks :)

a few things to note.
that magazine looks like it would only hold about 10 rounds of 5.56.
ejecting shells straight up is usually a bad idea, any smoke/gas and the shells themselves would interfere with sight and target acquisition.
the area where the bullets feed into the gun isn't lined up with the ejection port.

addressing the ejection port location, the m14 is a renovated m1 garand. the m1 is hardly a cqb weapon and it's design hasn't been updated with modern developments in mind. if you look at any assault weapon design that was made from scratch in the past decade, they all honor the idea of limiting moving parts close to the shooter's face/ in the shooter's line of sight.

Yes I know all of that. This weapon is simply a concept.I do in fact understand how modern and classic firearms work but at times I like to create things that are bit more interesting than a normal AR or SMG.If you go back through my gallery you will see plenty of weapons that would work but this is a stretch and I do know that. Thanks for the knowledge though,it is nice to hear from some one who really knows what they are talking about.

fair enough. the way you've set the gun up, the chamber is located directly above the back extremity of the magazine. this means the bullets from the magazine need to travel backwards and then assisted up, into a position where the bolt can push it into the chamber. which means the gun needs a mechanism to do two extra things that can be avoided by just lining up the bullets from the mag directly with the back end of the chamber. imo, having an advanced cycling mech that doesn't shorten the gun or improve the function of the gun just means the gun will have more moving parts and therefore, more chances of failing.

In that I do agree with you. That is how I envisioned it feeding.I guess the rounds could be pushed up toward the bolt by tension from a spring in the mag or gun so the bolt can grab them like a normal AR but working at an angle, there would be more than one round out of the mag and in the body of the rifle at the same time this way though so there would need to be way of preventing the two or three extra rounds from falling out of the gun if the mag is taken out before the gun is empty.

since it seems like you really dig guns with advanced cycling mechs, i suggest you study the guts of guns like the hkg11 or the kriss super v.

That helical mag seems like it would hold about 20 rounds of 5.56 in my opinion, because helical mags have the bullets organized in a spiral-like way.

20 rounds of 9mm, maybe, but the mag above is barely the length of 2 5.56 cartridges.
